Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensuring punctual attendance to duties considering time in (7.30 am) and time out (4.30 Pm) and keeping record of overtime used on daily basis.
  • Ensuring that the muster roll is filled everyday clearly indicating absence, presence, and permission or leave days of a worker accordingly. Incase somebody is late recording the time of arrival.
  • Always uphold general discipline of workers and enforcing all the policies of the farm to the workers with no compromise.
  • Induct new workers in your department into the mainstream activities relating to the company's policies and other farm's legislations and on the roles of certain players e.g. first aiders, health & safety committee, fire safety.
  • Ensure that a hand on training is done exhaustively including work safety procedures before allocation of duties to the new workers.
  • Ensure that in the event of an accident or injury of a worker in the department, the supervisors in charge make an injury report and submit it to the office within the same day of the accident occurrence and organize for first aid provision to the casualty with the first aiders on duty.
  • Handle the workers grievances and escalate the ones not handled to the office management.
  • Report any situation or condition that may pose as a health hazard to the workers and ensure proper use and maintenance of the personal protective clothing provided.
  • Report any person or situation that may destabilize peace or smooth running of the company's operations.
  • Ensuring proper crop husbandry techniques e.g. de suckering, cracking, weeding and general cleanliness of the greenhouses are communicated to the supervisors on time.
  • To act in accordance with all lawful instructions of and comply with all lawful commands and directions of the Company or its duly authorized officers.
  • Compiling a report on each greenhouse and submitting it to the director on a weekly basis. The report should encompass all aspects of production that may include pests and diseases, varying levels of production, factors affecting growth and the general performance of each greenhouse.
  • To promote and always safeguard the interests of the Company and its business and not at any time to do anything detrimental to those interests.
  • Ensuring greenhouse operations systems are in good order e.g. Irrigation system, spray lines and report any anomalies like leaks, dry spots, or any malfunctions.
  • Report any tears of the plastic, any breakages or destruction arising from occasional twisters and ensuring that the greenhouse structure i.e. plastic, doors are intact.
  • Give a detailed report on the crop condition (i.e. diseases and pests) of the crop by ensuring that scouting is done on weekly basis.
  • Ensure that the workers do not enter the greenhouse being sprayed or pass through greenhouses that have been sprayed before the lapse of re-entry period.
  • Check and ensure proper cut points and cut stage of flowers.
  • Enhance prompt transport of the cut flowers to the cold store or the grading house.
  • Ensure that the harvesting buckets are clean, have enough post-harvest solution and number of flowers put is reasonable and stems are reaching the water i.e. 10cm deep.
Key Requirements Skills, experience and qualification
  • Lowest level of education diploma in agriculture/horticulture or management related course.
  • Experience: knowledge in agriculture/horticulture, trainable and open to work.
  • Age 28 years and above
  • Excellent communication skills especially in English
