  • The COO will be involved in major strategic and operational issues across the business and will be a regular participant at quarterly board meetings. This role is intended to attract top global talent given the remarkable opportunity in front of us. The role is based in Nairobi, Kenya with regular travel across the region.
Key Responsibilities
  • Drive standardization in protocols and care delivery, in partnership with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO)
  • Design and oversee staffing to ensure safe and efficient care, in partnership with the Chief People Officer (CPO)
  • Lead monthly operating reviews across countries, covering the “Big 4” framework (i.e. Clinical, Growth, Ops Excellence, and Teammate Engagement)
  • Lead the efforts on setting annual budgets in partnership with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), then drive the execution plan for it
  • Develop and run process for new center approvals and diligence to enable better accountability on signed new centers
  • Drive new center construction timelines and process, ensuring consistency, efficiency and quality in the rollout of new centers - including both existing and new markets
  • Lead the analytics team, driving actionable insights across our business
  • Develop new business strategies to enhance market share and improve overall performance across operations, finance and clinical
  • Work with center-level and country teams to continuously drive efficiency across centers including but not limited to product costs and usage, and staffing
  • Help implement standard process and protocols in biomedical engineering
  • Help develop fraud and compliance controls, in partnership with the CFO
  • Lead strategic negotiations with international and local suppliers, then oversee supply chain (in partnership with Country Directors) to ensure continuity
  • Oversee the IT team, building best-in-class capabilities to support our operations and help build more automation into our daily processes including integrated reporting dashboards, in collaboration with country teams and the CFO
  • Support Country Directors on government relations and patient advocacy efforts
  • Engage nephrologists, key physicians, and other clinical stakeholders, in partnership with Country Directors and the CMO
  • Represent AHN at various professional, industry and governmental organizations and meetings
  • Help ensure a culture of compliance and integrity throughout the organization
  • Develop positive work relationships and collaborate with all levels of management and other departments, work collaboratively with field management, HR, finance, etc.
  • Launch, lead, and manage innovative new operational initiatives, including high impact special projects involving externs from Bain & Co and McKinsey
  • Coach, mentor, and support talent, developing the next generation of AHN leaders
  • Travel required up to 30-40%
Qualifications
  • Strong alignment with AHN's mission and values, including a 'Patient First' mindset
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's or MBA degree preferred
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of high impact management experience, with prior management consulting experience being a plus
  • Healthcare industry background preferred, ideally with dialysis experience (though not required)
  • Strong work ethic and flexibility, respect of local norms and culture, and ability to work with humility and urgency
  • Experience working internationally, preferably including emerging markets exposure
  • Strong leadership acumen, successful team management and development
  • Demonstrated track record of successful operating leadership and financial expertise
  • Strong problem-solving skills (including outside-the-box thinking), along with top notch communication skills (written and oral, including presenting in front of large groups)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, with a positive, 'can do' attitude
  • Ability to dig into the details of the teams work while also providing high level direction
  • Advanced computer skills and proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc
