- RKJMS is seeking to hire a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Dermatologist on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive, specialized care in the diagnosis and treatment of dermatological conditions. This role encompasses managing a broad spectrum of skin diseases, performing both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and ensuring an exceptional patient experience. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the candidate will mentor junior staff, participate in research and quality improvement initiatives, and contribute to continuous professional development.
Clinical Care & Patient Management
- Undertake comprehensive patient consultations to assess skin-related symptoms, review medical histories, and determine diagnostic needs.
- Diagnose and treat a range of dermatological conditions including eczema, psoriasis, acne, skin cancers, and other complex skin disorders.
- Develop individualized treatment plans that may include medication management, lifestyle modifications, and referrals for surgical interventions when necessary.
- Provide long-term management and follow-up care for patients with chronic dermatological conditions.
- Integrate psycho-social interventions into patient care to address the emotional and psychological aspects associated with skin disorders.
- Perform specialized dermatologic procedures such as skin biopsies, excisions, and cosmetic interventions.
- Laser treatment is an added advantage
- Oversee and conduct minor surgical procedures and cosmetic dermatology services as required.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
- Actively participate in Continuous Medical Education (CME) activities, conferences, and workshops.
- Mentor and supervise junior medical officers, dermatology fellows, and clinical staff to foster a culture of excellence.
- Contribute to advancements in dermatological science and practice.
- Implement and participate in quality improvement initiatives within the dermatology department.
- Ensure an outstanding patient and client experience by delivering compassionate, patient-centered care and clear, empathetic communication throughout the treatment process.
- Uphold the highest standards in data protection by maintaining the confidentiality and security of patient records in compliance with hospital policies, the Kenya Medical and Dental Council regulations, and applicable data protection laws.
- Maintain meticulous and confidential patient records in accordance with all medical and legal regulations.
- Strictly adhere to hospital policies, ethical guidelines, and the regulatory requirements set by the Kenya Medical and Dental Council.
- Promote best practices in patient safety and the delivery of high-quality care.
Education & Professional Qualifications
- Kenyan citizenship is required.
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a recognized institution.
- Master’s degree in Dermatology from a recognized institution.
- Registered as a Medical/Specialist Practitioner with the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
- Certificate of Registration and a valid practicing license from the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
- Possession of a Recognition Certificate as a Specialist by the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ Council.
At least one year of post-specialization experience in a busy dermatology unit.
Demonstrated expertise in performing both diagnostic and therapeutic
dermatologic procedures.
Experience in training and mentoring medical personnel is highly desirable.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with sensitivity to work in a multi-ethnic environment and respect for diversity.
- Proficiency in computer applications and modern medical IT systems.
- Commitment to patient-centered care and clinical excellence, with adherence to the constitutional values outlined in Articles 10 and 232.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare setting.
- Must satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
- Undertake general diagnosis, care, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients with dermatological conditions.
- Deliver specialized clinical care, including the provision of psycho-social interventions.
- Provide clinical services through training, consultation, and performing surgeries across various health facilities.
- Carry out forensic and medico-legal services as required.
- Coordinate disease surveillance, prevention, and control within the dermatology department.
- Lead health education and promotion initiatives and implement health projects and programs.
- Maintain up-to-date health information systems and monitor the provision of health treatment and care.
- Undertake health research, analyze medical reports, and perform any other lawful duties as assigned.
