Build an incredible workplace and grow your business with our all-in-one platform.Legal CounselWe are looking to hire a Legal Counsel to Review, draft pleadings, representing the Company in Small Claims matters, and watching brief in non- complex litigation. The role also involves managing dispute-related documentation and coordinating the provision of such documentation to external counsel in collaboration with the Senior Legal Counsel - Dispute Resolution.Duties and responsibilities
  • Assist in the negotiation, drafting, and review of non-complex commercial agreements, contracts, leases, and other legal documents.
  • Conduct legal research on applicable statutes, regulations, and legal issues relevant to the Company's operations.
  • Analyze legal documents and prepare summaries, opinions, and reports for management and relevant departments.
  • Prepare legal correspondence, memoranda, and other written materials as required.
  • Review draft pleadings and promptly attend to legal correspondence, pleadings, and court orders.
  • Represent the company in Small Claims matters and watch brief in ongoing criminal and non-complex civil litigation
  • Collaborate with internal departments to gather information and documentation required for dispute resolution.
  • Facilitate communication between internal and external stakeholders involved in disputes and manage administrative aspects of dispute handling.
  • Maintain and manage proper storage of all legal and dispute-related documentation, including contracts, leases, agreements, and litigation files.
  • Ensure all legal documents are accurate, complete, properly maintained, and filed in accordance with Company policies.
  • Coordinate the provision of documentation to external counsel and manage settlement of their invoices as guided by the General Counsel.
  • Undertake any other responsibilities directly related to the delivery of expected outputs and results from a Legal Counsel.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in law from a recognized university.
  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and Commissioner for Oaths.
  • Minimum of six (6) years' legal experience, with at least three (3) years' post-qualification experience in an in-house legal role or a reputable large law firm.
Competency
  • Excellent legal drafting, analytical, litigation, and negotiation skills, with a strong working knowledge of applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy, coupled with sound judgment, integrity, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Strong planning, prioritization, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
