The Senior Research Manager will lead and oversee research initiatives, collaborate with researchers and communities, set strategic research goals, and manage project timelines. Responsibilities include mentoring researchers, securing funding and partnerships, evaluating research methodologies, and ensuring impactful outcomes. The role also involves fostering a collaborative research environment and aligning activities with Masakhane's mission to amplify African languages and voices through technology.Qualifications
  • Strong background in NLP, linguistics, or computational linguistics, with expertise in research methodologies and project execution.
  • Experience in managing research teams, mentoring researchers, and setting strategic goals.
  • Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams, build inclusive communities, and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in academic writing, presenting research findings, and securing project funding.
  • Familiarity with African languages and culture is highly beneficial.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field (Linguistics, Computer Science, AI, or similar disciplines).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Experience working in open, participatory research environments is a plus.
