Our Vision of Aga Khan University Ho.Senior Manager, Product Management, ICT Administration OfficeJob Purpose/SummaryThe Aga Khan University (AKU) is building an AI-enabled product to address the challenges of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). While working under the office of the Chief Data Innovation Officer the job holder will be a strategic and execution-focused Senior Product Manager expected to lead the development and delivery of Afya Gemma.Reporting to the Chief Data Innovation Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for leading and managing the full product lifecycle for Afya Gemma-from vision and strategy to delivery, iteration, and scale-while supervising a multidisciplinary team, managing budgets, allocating resources, assessing risks, and ensuring accountability to funders and institutional stakeholders.He/she will work closely with data scientists, clinicians, engineers, designers, researchers, and external advisors to ensure the product meets its mission of enabling equitable, high-quality healthcare.Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • Define and evolve the strategic vision for Afya Gemma, prioritizing impactful healthcare use cases in LMICs.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision, mentoring, and performance feedback to a multidisciplinary team of data engineers, data scientists, UX developers, clinicians, product marketers etc. Ensure clarity of roles, professional development planning, and collaborative team culture.
  • Lead sprint planning, backlog management, and coordination across AI, engineering, design, clinical, and research teams. Supervise cross-functional staff and support performance alignment.
  • Conduct user interviews and field testing with healthcare workers, clinicians, field staff. Integrate feedback into product design.
  • Define model capabilities, safety thresholds, and data requirements specific to Afya Gemma.
  • Develop launch strategies, training materials, and user onboarding journeys tailored to diverse personas and different geographies.
  • Provide regular updates to funders, ensuring milestones, reporting, and deliverables are met.
  • Define and track KPIs (e.g., health worker efficiency, decision confidence, data coverage) to assess real-world impact.
  • Ensure responsible AI practices in the design and deployment of Afya Gemma, aligned with global health and data ethics standards.
  • Develop and oversee product budgets; allocate resources efficiently across product functions and phases. Monitor burn rates and adjust forecasts with the finance team.
  • Identify product, operational, or delivery risks early. Develop mitigation plans and communicate contingencies to leadership.
Relevant Experience and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Computer Science, Product Design, or a related field
  • A master's degree in a relevant field is preferred
  • 5+ years of product management experience, ideally in digital health, AI, or LMIC-focused tech.
  • Proven experience translating user needs into product decisions.
  • Proven experience supervising multidisciplinary teams and delivering on complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Familiarity with GenAI, LLMs, or decision support systems is a strong asset.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Comfortable working in agile environments with distributed teams.
  • A proven track record in building and shipping successful analytics software products at scale at a high-growth, high-tech company
  • Strong sense of ownership and growth mindset.
