Details:Mission and objectives:The Resident Coordinator’s Office supports the work of the UN Resident Coordinator and coordinates activities of the UN Country Team in its engagement with the Government as defined by the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF).Kenya is currently implementing UNDAF 2018 – 2022, which is the medium-term results framework that describes the response of the UN system to national development priorities. UNDAF describes how the UN country team will contribute to the achievement of development results based on a common country analysis and the UN comparative advantage.The Resident Coordinator is leading and strategically positioning the United Nations country team in Kenya to respond to the current national priorities, mainly to Kenya’s Vision 2030, Medium-Term Plan III and the Big Four Agenda. Communications and advocacyContext:The UN is scaling up its data and data visualisation capacities to aid the decision-making, tracking and implementation of the SDGs in the UN system and in in the development system in Kenya. This includes driving data-based decision making and translating data to visualised results in several formats. Strengthened data and visualisation of data will support prioritisation of activities and deepen the understanding of the impact of UN development programming and ensuring transparency and visibility of UN activities that contribute to sustainable development in Kenya.The UNV assignment comes at a critical time as the UN in Kenya embarks on the evaluation of its existing UNSDCF and the development of a new Cooperation Framework.UN Kenya is looking for a Data Analysis and Data Visualisation Officer – Specialist UNV to join the RCO team on a full-time basis and contribute to its crucial mandate of enhancing the coherence of the UN System in Kenya. The Specialist UNV will work under the overall supervision of the Head of RCO and very closely with the Communications, Advocacy and Coordination Officer and the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer.The UNV will assist the RCO team in the results reporting cycle and key processes related to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2022-2027. The UNV will support the collaboration between the UN, Government and other stakeholders on data for the SDGs. The UNV will explore and apply innovative data and AI tools for UN Kenya.The UNV position will provide the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to work closely with team members and learn about how the UN system operates across all entities
at the country level.Task description:Under the direct supervision of the Head of RCO Kenya, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
  • Support the RCO team and agencies in the annual results cycle activities across all UN entities, including support and management of the UNINFO platform with particu-lar focus on quantitative reporting.
  • Provide analytical input to executive decision-making and system-wide priority setting and conduct dedicated data analysis projects on thematic priorities for the UN in Ken-ya as required.
  • Support the development and use of data-based infographics and visuals to show the impact by the UN in Kenya through its programmes and provide regular content for website, publications, social media and other platforms.
  • Facilitate and drive joint approaches and data tools, platforms and coordination mechanisms at country level to bring the UN entities, development partners, Govern-ment and other stakeholders closer together on data and results for the SDGs.
  • Support the development of and use of AI and data tools for the results reporting and automate processes UNINFO as applicable.
  • Support initiatives to strengthen data for SDGs.
  • Assist in preparing briefing material, key strategic points and background information prior to UN RC meetings and strategic high-level events for UN Kenya.
  • Support any other tasks for the RCO team in coordination as applicable.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:
  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark International Volunteer Day).
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country.
  • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities.
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publica-tions/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers.
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
Requirements:Experience in data sharing, data management/support and data analysis to support data driven decision-making and/or policy formulation and implementation
Experience in project management and/or coordination (ideally data/digital/science or tech fo-cused) is a strong asset.
Experience working with software such as Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, R, Python, SQL, and/or Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel etc. is highly desirable; Analytics and digital skills especially on big data are highly desirable.
