Reports to: Retail DirectorDepartment: RetailLocation: Flagship + Other OutletsJob Purpose
  • To contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and review of a retail operations that maximizes the retail net profit by driving sales and controlling retail costs.
  • To build motivated and high performing teams through the effective leadership and line management of retail staff.
  • Ensure 'added value' opportunities are afforded through high presence; including raising public awareness with the marketing teams.
Job Responsibility and AccountabilityProject set ups– Ensuring the set-up team is in place and liaising with the Project manager on the final plan.Supply Chain Management (Local supplies)– Liaise & follow up with product managers and local suppliers for all orders placed.Retailing.
  • Ensure sales volumes are at optimum as per the budgets.
  • Ensure that the Gross Profit at the locations are maintained as per the budgets.
  • Analyzing the locations' performance vs budgets and variance analysis reporting [Work on a plan with the Director(s)]
  • Carry out Floor & Space planning & management with the Retail operations manager.
  • Spend time at all the retail stores with customers to understand and identify business critical issues
  • Take a lead role in building a strong sales management culture, coaching Retail Managers, identifying skills and opportunities for development; provide advice and guidance on outlet manager issues when needed.
  • Coming up with ideas on omni-channel enhancements and creating a wow factor for consumers.
  • Ensure that the marketing activities are implemented for promotions within the stipulated time frame at locations that have been identified, and the same is within the parameters laid down by the brand owners and the Marketing team.
  • Implement strategies not only for customer retention but also to increase the footfall, conversion rates & basket values, including maintaining up-to-date knowledge of competitors and retail trends.
  • Regularly co-ordinate with the Product & marketing managers and the store managers to ensure that such activities are rolled out on time, getting the retail floor maximum advantage
  • Gap Analysis for each location including customer feedback based on the Monthly Review Meetings, with location managers. Ensure that the identified gaps are addressed, and decorum of the business maintained.
  • Data science elements - use of big data e.g. delivery heatmaps, 360 views of customers.
Stock Management at each outlet through the Deputy Store Managers & Retail Operations Manager
  • Ensure that the shrinkages at locations are monitored and kept under control.
  • Consistently be updated on the stock situations at the locations, and, ensure that quality stock is maintained and the product managers are informed on depleting the slow moving/dead stocks from the locations, under their purview.
  • Ensure that all processes and policies that have been outlined by the organization are followed diligently across the retail outlets
  • Regularly produce and present a range of financial/non-financial reports as required.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned to you by the Directors from time to time
RequirementsQualification and Experience
  • Minimum qualification of a degree in Business with Sales or Marketing option or any other relevant field.
  • Professional membership certification e.g. Marketing Society of Kenya or other relevant bodies will be an added advantage.
  • Extensive business experience of not less than 10 years including relevant multi-site gained within the retail sector.
  • Experienced in managing relationships at a senior level and managing a diverse (in terms of skill base and experience) team.
  • Understanding of latest retail trends and omni-channel thinking
  • Good financial & value chain knowledge.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to contribute and successfully deliver against a business strategy.
  • Must possess a track record of increasing and sustaining sales growth and profitability even in challenging market conditions.
  • Must demonstrate a proven ability to motivate, coach and develop people
