- Operate and maintain pharmacy inventory systems, ensuring optimal stock levels and minimal expiries.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and security of pharmaceutical products in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Document inventory transactions, expiry management, and any incidents or discrepancies.
- Support the implementation and utilization of pharmaceutical information systems and automation technologies.
- Comply with all local regulatory frameworks, including the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant pharmacy environment.
- Accurately dispense prescription and over-the-counter medications according to physicians’ instructions.
- Counsel patients on medication usage, dosage, side effects, storage, and drug interactions.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals on prescriptions and therapy plans.
- Participate in the development, review, and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure accurate documentation and billing of all dispensed medications and services.
- Participate in medication audits, reconciliation processes, and pharmacovigilance activities.
- Keep updated with current pharmaceutical trends, drug updates, and industry best practices.
- Ensure adherence to infection control, safety protocols, and quality assurance programs.
- Work closely with pharmacy staff to ensure effective teamwork and smooth operations.
- Report to supervisors through the proper communication channels as per the organogram.
- Mentor and guide interns or junior staff where necessary.
- Attend departmental and hospital-wide meetings to enhance interdepartmental collaboration.
- Liaise with procurement and inventory teams to forecast and order supplies on time.
- Support process optimization and quality improvement initiatives.
- Interact professionally and compassionately with patients and caregivers.
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement.
- Engage with external regulatory and accreditation bodies during audits and inspections.
- Represent the pharmacy in professional forums and partnerships with training institutions.
- Perform any other duties assigned in line with the role.
- Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.
- Registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy setting.
- Proficiency in using pharmacy information systems.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacology, drug interactions, and dosage calculations.
- In-depth understanding of pharmaceutical legislation and safety regulations.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and accountability.
- Proficiency in inventory management and dispensing software.
- Upholds confidentiality and integrity in handling patient and medication data.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing schedules and operational demands.
- Proficiency in MS Office (especially MS Excel) and database systems.
