Reports to: Commercial Manager / DirectorRole SummaryWe are seeking a technically strong, detail-driven Commercial Analyst with advanced Excel and financial modelling capability to support complex financing and commercial activities across renewable energy projects in Africa. This role is heavily analytical and model-centric, requiring the ability to design, audit, and interpret sophisticated financial models that underpin investment decisions, debt structuring, pricing strategy, and business planning.The Analyst will play a critical role in debt origination and execution, including acquisition financing, refinancing, structured debt, and corporate funding - translating commercial strategy into robust financial frameworks that support investor and lender engagement.Key ResponsibilitiesDebt Financing & Financial ModellingBuild, stress-test, and maintain advanced, lender-grade financial models supporting syndicated loans, mezzanine financing, and structured debt transactions.Develop integrated project finance models incorporating cash flow forecasting, scenario analysis, sensitivities, and capital structuring.Translate commercial and operational assumptions into defensible financial outputs.Prepare data-driven investment materials, lender presentations, and internal memorandums grounded in model analysis.Support due diligence processes by validating financial assumptions and coordinating with lenders, advisors, and legal teams.Monitor debt market dynamics and incorporate macroeconomic factors into financial projections.Investment Analysis & Transaction SupportDevelop or adapt acquisition, divestment, and project evaluation models with clear audit trails and version control.Model strategic financing scenarios, including capital structure optimization and return sensitivity analysis.Support business planning through quantitative forecasting and performance modelling.Conduct analytical market research to inform investment decisions.Contribute financially rigorous inputs to board materials and investment approvals.Review commercial project documentation (PPA/EPC) to ensure financial alignment.Perform customer credit assessments using financial analysis and risk metrics.Maintain structured project databases to support screening and modelling workflows.Provide analytical reporting across management, investment, and finance functions.Additional ResponsibilitiesDevelop discount rate and hurdle rate frameworks using quantitative market analysis.Support strategic transactions with modelling-driven insights and documentation.Contribute to cross-functional initiatives within a lean, execution-focused team.Travel across Africa as required to support project and transaction activities.QualificationsMaster's degree in Finance, Economics, Investment Analysis, or related quantitative discipline.CFA Charterholder or active candidate is advantageous.Preferred Skills & AttributesAdvanced Excel expertise with demonstrable experience building complex financial models from first principles.Strong understanding of project finance modelling methodologies and transaction structures.3-5 years' experience in private equity, investment banking, corporate finance, or project finance roles with heavy modelling exposure.Experience with leveraged finance, structured transactions, or infrastructure/project finance.Familiarity with financing documentation, term sheets, and commercial contracts.Excellent analytical discipline with strong model validation and error-checking practices.High attention to detail and ability to translate quantitative analysis into decision-ready insights.Strong written communication skills for producing investor-grade materials.Self-directed, collaborative, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment.Interest in renewable energy and infrastructure investment.Why This Role?This position offers deep exposure to high-level financial modelling and complex financing transactions within Africa's renewable energy sector.
