Action Against Hunger is currently implementing activities in West Pokot, Mandera, Isiolo, Tana River, Nairobi and Baringo counties.Action Against Hunger is looking to fill the positions of internship for Nutrition and WASH in Samburu County to support in the integration of Nutrition and WASH Project.Purpose:The Nutrition/WASH Intern will support the implementation of integrated Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) interventions in Samburu County. The internship offers practical, hands-on experience in program implementation, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), community engagement, accountability mechanisms, and documentation of project activities. The intern will work closely with the Program Manager and field teams to enhance quality service delivery, data management, and reporting.Engagement:Support Action Against Hunger in the WASH/Nutrition coordination forums at County and sub-county level, collaborate with other implementing partners, INGO, UN bodies and the local communities to support in the successful implementation and smooth running of the projects. Successful implementation of WASH/Nutrition interventions in target areas in line with Internationally/Nationally accepted standards and ACFs/national technical guidelines and the donor requirements.Delivery:The WASH and Nutrition Interns will work under the guidance of the WASH and Nutrition officer support in designing, adoption and promotion of hygiene and sanitation and Nutrition activities at the community level.Essential ResponsibilitiesUnder the overall supervision of the Program Manager and project officer, the intern will:§ Assist in organizing and participating in nutrition outreaches, community mobilization initiatives, and stakeholder engagement meetings.§ Support coordination with Community Health Promoters (CHPs), Community Health Assistants (CHAs), and SB/County Health Teams.§ Assist officers in coordination with MOH, ensure proper implementation of hygiene and sanitation component of WASH projects within allocated budget and timelines.§ Support planning and implementation of community mobilization activities§ Provide support to the officers in distribution of hygiene items and conduct monitoring and follow up to ensure proper usage of items and appropriateness.§ Assist in meeting with local leaders and community elders to communicate the details of overall Action Against Hunger program objectives and specific WASH program objectives§ Assist officers in data collection, verification, and entry using approved tools, including digital platforms such as Kobo Collect.§ Assist in compiling progress reports on a timely basis in liaison with other program staff; Weekly SitRep and Monthly (APRs and MNRs)§ To support verify that all reports and data submitted to Action Against Hunger by CHPs are accurate and completed. Ensure all team members have the knowledge and resources for field based educational work§ Assis contribute to routine monitoring activities and support field supervision visits.§ Support officers to prepare monitoring summaries and assist in documenting lessons learned and best practices.§ Support the documentation of success stories, case studies, and field experiences for reporting and knowledge management purposes.RequirementsRequirements§ Required Qualifications and Professional Experience§ Recent diploma graduate in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, Public Health, Sociology, Social Work. And community health§ Prior volunteer or internship experience in nutrition, health, WASH (Hygiene and sanitation promotion), or community-based programming is an added advantage.Required Skills & Competencies§ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills§ Must be a resident of Samburu County.§ Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).§ Familiarity with online data collection tools (e.g., Kobo Collect) is an added advantage.§ Strong attention to detail and accuracy.§ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.§ Basic data analysis and report-writing skills.§ Demonstrated integrity and commitment to humanitarian principles§ Having a valid driving license of class A2 and A3 is an added advantageReporting and SupervisionThe intern will report directly to Nutrition/WASH officer under the overall supervisor of the Program ManagerPayment TermsPayments will be entitled to a daily rate of KES 1,500/- subjected to statutory deductions as per legal requirements.Contract Duration timeliness: Six (6) monthsConfidentiality, Safeguarding and Professional ConductAll personnel must maintain confidentiality, neutrality, and the highest standards of professional conduct in the performance of their duties. Personnel are required to comply with all organizational policies, including safeguarding, PSEA, and risk management guidelines of Action Against Hunger. Any breach of confidentiality, misconduct, or negligence may result in disciplinary action, including termination of the contract. Staff must act with integrity and ensure that their actions do not place beneficiaries, communities or the organization at risk.
