The Ndovu Study is a two-year multi-site, multi-county study nested in the Department of
Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics at the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Purpose of the position
The Study Physician will be in charge of clinical activities at the study clinic and lead the
Study's coordinating team. He/she will provide overall management of the study clinical
activities ensuring they are conducted according to the protocol and GCP standards while
ensuring appropriate clinical management is provided in case of adverse events. The holder
of this position will also provide leadership of the study management team at the
coordinating centre while maintaining close working relationships with the leadership of the
study teams in the participating countries.

Reporting to: Chief Investigator
Job Description
1. Supervision both clinical and nursing teams on site.
2. Develop good understanding of clinical trial protocol and standard operating procedures
and ensure accurate implementation of the same.
3. Developing study specific protocols.
4. Coordinating with locally based Community Interviewers on recruitment strategies for
eligible participants.
5. Determine eligibility of participants for enrolment into the clinical trials.
6. Participate in screening procedures prior to enrolment as per protocol.
7. Enrolment and follow-up of participants in the clinical trial, while ensuring adherence to
protocol and the ICH Good Clinical Practice guidelines to ensure minimal
deviations/protocol violations.
8. Provision of medical care to participants enrolled in the clinical trials.
9. Assessing for adverse events and serious adverse events and providing appropriate
medical care.
10. Reporting of safety information to the sponsor and appropriate regulatory authorities as
per protocol.
Page 1 of 211. Generation of quality data on case report forms and ensuring the same is accurately
transcribed in electronic case report forms in a timely fashion.
12. Resolution of queries in conjunction with the data management team and study team.
13. Participate in staff training on protocol, SOPs and relevant medical aspects of the study.
14. Participate in primary health care through education of participants on aspects of the
study.
15. Report to the Principal Investigator, or Trial Manager the progress, successes and
challenges encountered in the clinical trials.Job Specifications
i.
Should be holders of a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB)
degree
ii.
Be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council with a
valid practice license
iii.
Additional training in Epidemiology, Global Health or other related field
iv.
MPH or MSc in Epidemiology or related field will be an added advantage
v.
He/she should have five at least 3 years of experience in working with donor-
funded programs;
vi.
Previous experience with CDC-funded projects will be an added advantage
vii.
High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality
viii.
Be a team player with excellent communication, report writing and analytical
skillsTerms of appointment
The appointment is on contractual terms of one year, renewable based on performance and
mutual agreement.
