The Ndovu Study is a two-year multi-site, multi-county study nested in the Department of Clinical
Medicine and Therapeutics at the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Purpose of the position
The Study Nurse/Counsellor wil be responsible for recruitment, follow-up, retention and
monitoring of study participants in accordance with the study protocols and SOPs for the Ndovu
Cohort Study
Job Title: Study Nurse/Counsel or
Duty Station: Various Study Sites in Nairobi, Kiambu, Kisumu, Siaya, Mombasa
Reporting to: Study Physician
Job Description
1. Conduct thorough screening of potential participants to ensure eligibility based on the
study criteria
2. Obtain informed consent from participants
3. Providing family planning counsel ing services
4. Implement strategies to Preventing missed appointments and enhance retention of study
participants e.g. appointment reminders etc
5. Supporting treatment adherence
6. Collection and entry of study information in approved clinical report forms
7. Completion of required MoH tools and registers for HIV care
8. Ensure safe and confidential custody of study source and other study documents
9. Collection and shipment of study specimen
10. Dispensing of study medication to participants, providing clear instructions on usage
11. and potential side effects
12. Monitoring study participants for adverse events and reporting findings promptly to the
County Clinical Coordinator
13. Any other duties assigned by supervisor
Job Specification
i.
Kenya Enrolled Nurse and registered to practice with the Nursing Council of Kenya
ii.
Minimum of 2 years' experience with direct clinical care, preferably in HIV/AIDS
management
iii.
Excellent written and verbal communication skil s with ability to engage effectively with
diverse populations
iv.
Keen attention to detail

Proficiency in intermediate IT skil s
vi.
MUST have a current Certificate of Good Clinical Practice
vii.
MUST have a Certificate in Human Subject Protection
viii.
Diploma or Degree in nursing is an added advantage
ix.
Additional training in counsel ing is also beneficial
x.
Research experience particularly in clinical studies related to HIV is a plus
xi.
Experience in HIV clinical care is an added advantage
xii.
Certification in the Counselling is an added advantage
Terms of appointment
The appointment is on contractual terms of one year, renewable based on performance and
mutual agreement.
