If you’re interested in a career at Canonical, we are a remote-first company so please apply to any suitable role as skills are valued more than location, despite some having a preferred geographic preference.SummaryAs a Linux System Engineer, you will work on the architecture, design, and development of core components involved in the enablement and support of Raspberry Pi devices for the Ubuntu Distribution, often interacting with the upstream community for projects like U-Boot, libcamera, and HATs. You will also have the opportunity to work closely with hardware vendors and be part of shaping the future of Raspberry Pi for Linux and Ubuntu.Location: This is a remote work role and can be held in the EMEA region.What your day will look like
  • Work with a highly technical team to define and shape the future of Raspberry Pi platform support for Ubuntu.
  • Write high-quality code, create new features, and contribute upstream.
  • Contribute features and bug fixes to projects including GPIO libraries, libcamera, and Ubuntu installers.
  • Debug issues and produce high-quality fixes
  • Review code produced by other engineers
  • Discuss ideas and collaborate on solutions
  • Work with teams focused on Ubuntu for server, desktop, IoT and clouds
  • Work from home with global travel 2 to 4 weeks a year for internal and external events
What we are looking for in you
  • Development experience on Raspberry Pi
  • Development experience with early boot software like TF-A, OP-TEE, U-Boot, GRUB, or the Linux kernel.
  • A love of technology and working with brilliant people
  • Motivated, curious, flexible, articulate, and accountable
  • A long-time Linux user with broad interests in the future of Linux
  • Experience or interest in learning how to package software for Debian and Ubuntu
  • Enterprising, thoughtful, and self-motivated
  • Ability to travel twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long
Additional skills that you might also bring
  • Experience with Debian/Ubuntu-based operating systems
  • Good understanding of Debian packaging and snaps would also be a considerable advantage.
