  • The Credit Risk & Compliance Analyst is responsible for analyzing and verifying all loan applications received from branches before forwarding them to the Head Office Credit Committee for final review and disbursement. This role plays a critical role in protecting the institution from credit losses by ensuring compliance with internal lending policies, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory requirements. The position primarily focuses on both short-term loan products (e.g., 1-month loans) and long-term ones, requiring precision, swift judgment, and strong documentation analysis.
Key ResponsibilitiesCredit Risk Analysis & Loan Verification
  • Receive and review all loan applications from branches before Credit Committee discussions/HOCC
  • Conduct creditworthiness assessments using both financial and non-financial metrics.
  • Verify completeness, consistency, and authenticity of loan documentation.
  • Assess the borrower\’s repayment capacity, guarantor strength, facility referees, and security adequacy.
  • Identify policy deviations, risks, and red flags, and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Ensure all loans submitted align with the product\’s structure and credit policy.
Risk Assessment & Monitoring
  • Perform detailed risk assessments and maintain a Credit Risk Register.
  • Monitor and report on key risk indicators (KRIs) linked to short-term and long-term loans.
  • Recommend improvements in credit appraisal templates and decision-making tools.
  • Support management in identifying patterns of high-risk lending behavior.
Compliance & Policy Enforcement
  • Ensure full compliance with lending policies, CBK regulations, and AML/CFT requirements.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and compliance checklists for each loan reviewed.
  • Highlight compliance gaps or irregularities to management and suggest corrective actions.
Reporting & Communication
  • Prepare accurate and timely risk analysis reports for the Head Office Credit Committee and Risk Team.
  • Communicate verification outcomes to branches, noting common errors and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with branches to clarify appraisal details and support accurate submissions.
Training & Support
  • Work closely with branch staff to enhance credit analysis and documentation practices.
  • Participate in staff training sessions on risk awareness and credit policy interpretation.
  • Offer hands-on support to improve branch-level credit quality and turnaround times.
Key Skills & Competencies
  • Excellent financial analysis and credit appraisal skills.
  • Deep understanding of short-term and long-term lending, credit scoring, and risk exposure.
  • High attention to detail, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound judgment and integrity in credit decision-making.
  • Ability to manage multiple loan reviews under tight timelines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions.
  • Familiarity with data analytical tools and reporting systems.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years' experience in credit risk analysis or loan verification within a microfinance or financial institution.
  • Certification in credit analysis, risk management, CPA, or related fields is an added advantage.
  • Proven experience handling high-volume, short-term credit products preferred.
  • Experience in AML/KYC verification platforms and document review systems.
  • Experience in internal credit scoring templates and loan origination workflows.
  • Prior experience with a loan management system (e.g., Musoni or Loan Performer).
  • Prior experience using Document Management Systems (DMS).
  • Experience using credit risk calculators or internal risk rating models.
  • Experience in Excel-based credit scoring templates and data analytical tools.
