- Install, configure, and maintain database management systems (DBMS).
- Monitor database performance, making adjustments as necessary to ensure optimal functionality.
- Implement and manage database backups and disaster recovery plans to guarantee data integrity and availability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, providing support for users and other departments.
- Ensure database security by implementing access control, encryption, and other security measures.
- Perform regular database performance tuning and optimization to improve speed and efficiency.
- Develop and maintain database documentation, including system configurations, backup schedules, and user manuals.
- Collaborate with developers to design and implement databases that support application development needs.
- Assist in the development of business continuity plans related to database operations.
- Support audits and compliance checks related to database systems and security.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, security protocols, and regulatory frameworks.
- Assist in database migrations, upgrades, and patch management to keep systems up to date.
- Perform routine database maintenance tasks such as data archiving, deletion, and optimization.
- Any other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor from time to time
- A minimum of a Higher Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA), Oracle Certified Associate / Professional (OCA/P) or similar Certifications are highly advantageous.
- Systems Development and DevOps skills would be beneficial
- Familiarity with the Data Protection Act (2019) and related security standards would be beneficial.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in database administration, system development or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of database management systems (DBMS), including SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL.
- Expertise in database performance tuning and optimization.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- High level of confidentiality and integrity.
