The Centre's mission is to use insect science for sustainable development, to ensure food security and improve the overall health of communities in Africa by addressing the interlinked problems of poverty, poor health, low agricultural productivity and environmental degradation.Overall Purpose of the JobThe position holder will contribute to the overall objectives of the Social Science and Impact Assessment Unit.Specific Duties
  • Design and implement baseline, mid-line, and end-line socio-economic surveys for the various projects and programmes conducted by the Social Science and Impact Assessment Unit.
  • Develop survey instruments using hard copies and electronically using Cspro digital templates.
  • Conduct enumerators training and supervise data collection.
  • Clean, merge, and troubleshoot both primary and secondary datasets.
  • Analyze data and write survey reports.
  • Draft research papers.
  • Conduct other activities as assigned by scientists and supervisors from the Social Science and Impact Assessment Unit.
  • Conduct literature review and synthesize data to articles for peer review.
RequirementsQualifications
  • MSc in Agricultural Economics.
  • At least two years experience as a research assistant.
  • Experience in applied econometrics.
  • Very good knowledge and skills of Stata and Cspro.
  • Experience in writing excellent survey reports and reviewing literature.
Other Desirable Attributes
  • Expected to make decisions for his/her work or section. Direction is sought when solutions are not within the established guidelines. Requires approval from the supervisor.
  • Does not supervise the work of others but may assist other employees in their work.
  • Expected to handle minimal resources such as imprest.
  • Contribute to research publications.
  • Provide data for research proposals.

  • This position reports to the Head of Social Science and Impact Assessment Unit
