The Blockchain Technology Track Mentor / Facilitator will provide technical leadership,
mentorship, and instructional support for the Kenya Inclusivity in Technology Initiative (KITI)
Bootcamp and Hackathon series.Working at the University of Nairobi's C4DLab, the Mentor will play a key role in delivering
hands-on learning experiences, facilitating practical workshops, and mentoring youth
innovators and teams developing blockchain-driven solutions. The role also involves supporting
the design and implementation of technical sessions during bootcamps and hackathons,
ensuring that learning outcomes align with KITI's objectives of fostering digital inclusion,
employability, and innovation.
The Position:
This is a full-time position based in Nairobi and offered on a two-year fixed-term contract. The
successful candidate will report directly to the Principal Investigator of the Project. The role
focuses on guiding participants through the blockchain innovation track - helping them
understand blockchain fundamentals, apply distributed ledger technology in solving real-world
challenges, and build working prototypes aligned with Kenya's digital transformation agenda.
Duties and Responsibilities:1. Deliver high-quality block chain sessions during boot camps and hackathons, focusing on
both foundational and applied concepts such as distributed ledgers, smart contracts, NFTs,
and DeFi.
2. Mentor participants throughout the innovation cycle, from ideation and problem framing
to concept development, prototype design, and testing.
3. Provide both one-on-one and group mentorship to startup teams developing block chain-
based solutions in sectors such as agriculture, finance, logistics, and health.
4. Collaborate with other mentors, facilitators, and technical experts to foster a cohesive and
interdisciplinary learning environment.1
5. Design and continuously refine block chain learning modules, practical laboratories, and
exercises that promote hands-on engagement and applied learning.
6. Support the facilitation of design-thinking sessions, innovation sprints, and team-based
hackathon challenges by integrating block chain technology components.
7. Assist in organizing and coordinating block chain-related technical clinics, ensuring
effective scheduling, delivery, and resource management.
8. Guide participants in the use of block chain development tools such as Solidity, Remix IDE,
MetaMask, Hardhat, and Truffle.
9. Provide technical feedback on participants' prototypes and advise on scalability,
sustainability, and compliance with relevant block chain standards.
10. Engage with industry partners, mentors, and block chain associations to connect
participants with professional networks and potential investment or incubation
opportunities.
11. Support reporting, documentation, and communication of block chain track progress,
including the compilation of session notes, participant feedback, and outcomes.
12. Contribute to post-event reviews and lessons learned to continuously improve the design
and delivery of future boot camps and hackathons.Job Specification:1. Bachelor's degree in any of the following fields: Computer Science, Information
Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
2. At least three (3) years of experience in blockchain application development, distributed
ledger systems, or fintech innovation.
3. Proven experience in mentorship, technical facilitation, or training delivery within
technology bootcamps or innovation programs.
4. Practical experience developing smart contracts, decentralized applications (dApps), or
blockchain-based systems on platforms such as Ethereum, Solana, or Hyperledger.
5. Experience collaborating in multi-stakeholder innovation ecosystems or university-
affiliated research and development projects.Desirable:1. Certification in Blockchain Technology, Web3 Development, or Smart Contract
Programming.
2. Experience in university innovation hubs, incubation centres, or digital skills training
projects.
3. Knowledge of blockchain regulatory, ethical, and governance frameworks in Kenya or
Africa.Skills and Competencies1. Strong technical knowledge of blockchain architectures, consensus mechanisms, and
decentralized application frameworks.
2. Excellent facilitation, mentoring, and instructional delivery skills suitable for youth and
early-stage innovators.
3. Proficiency in blockchain tools such as Solidity, Remix IDE, Hardhat, Truffle,
MetaMask, and blockchain APIs.
4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in technology innovation contexts.2
5. Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
6. Ability to guide participants in applying blockchain solutions to real-world use cases in
agriculture, fintech, or public systems.
7. High ethical standards, integrity, and commitment to responsible technology
development.
8. Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage multiple teams, and meet event
