The primary objective of this role is to provide expert financial, contractual, and project management advice throughout the lifecycle of specific construction projects. The successful candidate will play a critical role in achieving cost efficiency, increasing value, and ultimately improving the overall gross margin for the company on the projects they manage.Key Responsibilities:Cost Management & Quantity Surveying:
  • Feasibility Studies & Cost Planning: Conduct detailed feasibility studies and prepare accurate cost plans, estimates, project plans, allocate resources, deliverables, timelines, and budgets for various project stages (conceptual, preliminary, detailed).
  • Procurement: Assist the procurement manager in negotiation with suppliers to secure the most favourable terms.
  • Contract Administration: Administer construction contracts, including the preparation of payment certificates, variation orders, and final accounts.
  • Cost Control & Reporting: Implement robust cost control measures, monitor project expenditures against budget, identify potential cost overruns, and prepare regular cost reports and forecasts. Regularly update stakeholders on project progress, challenges, and changes in scope.
  • Value Engineering: Proactively identify and recommend value engineering opportunities to optimize project costs without compromising quality or performance.
  • Risk Management: Identify and assess financial and contractual risks, developing mitigation strategies to protect company interests.
Project Engineering & Management:
  • Project Planning & Scheduling: Assist in the development of detailed project plans, schedules, and resource allocation to ensure timely and efficient project execution.
  • Technical Oversight: Provide technical support and guidance on engineering aspects of the project, ensuring compliance with specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements. Address project challenges, providing solutions to keep the project on track.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor and ensure the quality of work performed by our team, materials delivered by suppliers, conducting regular site inspections and audits.
  • Progress Monitoring & Reporting: Track project progress against schedule, identify deviations, and implement corrective actions. Prepare comprehensive progress reports for stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise effectively with the internal projects manager, suppliers, and internal teams, to ensure smooth project flow and communication.
  • Health, Safety & Environment (HSE): Ensure all project activities adhere to relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices.
  • Compliance: Ensure all project activities meet or exceed industry standards, regulations, and company quality guidelines.
Margin Enhancement:
  • Strategic Cost Optimization: Continuously seek innovative ways to reduce project costs and enhance profitability without compromising quality or project objectives.
  • Contractual Optimization: Identify opportunities within contracts to maximize revenue and minimize financial liabilities.
  • Negotiation Excellence: Apply strong negotiation skills in all aspects of project procurement and contract management to achieve optimal financial outcomes.
  • Performance Analysis: Analyze project financial performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies to enhance gross margins on future projects.
Qualifications:Education:· Bachelor's degree in quantity surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Professional accreditation is highly desirable.Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in quantity surveying and project management, within the construction environment.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing projects and improving financial outcomes.
