  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion's ministry in prayer.
  • Acts as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understands Christ's mandate to protect children. Commits to and prioritizes child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abides by all behavioral expectations in Compassion's Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Reports any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion's internal reporting process and appropriately supports responses to incidents if they occur.
  • Effectively procures supplies, materials and services to fulfill Compassion ministry programs. Ensures the most favorable terms and conditions for local ministry operations.
  • Sources and procures goods and services from approved vendors, being mindful of sales, promotional campaigns, and other opportunities to secure reduced prices. Assesses the supplier’s products to ensure they that they comply with specifications and meet the organization’s quality standards.
  • Negotiates prices and delivery conditions and commits to purchases (within established limits of authority), achieving terms that are in the Compassion’s best interest. Actively negotiates favorable terms, volume discounts and long-term contracts with suppliers to reduce costs and improve efficiencies.
  • Employs tools for cost reduction such as supplier consolidation, quality improvements and process efficiencies. Reviews purchase order claims for conformance to company policy, discussing defects and delivery problems and negotiating refunds.
  • Interprets client requisitions and anticipates demand for goods and services, monitoring the quality and timeliness of items supplied, and following-up with vendors to ensure timely delivery. Communicates the status of orders with internal customers.
  • Resolves vendor-related problems with regard to specifications, timing, quality, quantity, and delivery.
  • May provide expertise to other professionals and support staff in the sourcing discipline.

RequirementsEducation
  • A Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, procurement, logistics, or a related field.
Experience
  • Three years of experience in procurement, contract management, managing supplier relationships, and conducting market analysis is highly valued.
  • Progressively responsible work experience in procurement or related area with at least three (3) years of direct firsthand procurement experience on acquisition of strategic, high-value and varying complexity that support the needs of the organization.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes, sourcing strategies, and supply chain management principles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.
  • Proficiency in using procurement software and tools and Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, building and maintaining effective relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in business Contract Management, and knowledge of relevant laws and regulations governing procurement practices in Kenya.
  • Technology: Experience working with System Application and Products (SAP) systems or another Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is desirable.
Mandatory Requirement:
  • Registration certificate and a practicing license.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Professional certifications such as CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply); Certified Procurement and Supply Professional of Kenya (CPSP-K); Certified Procurement and Supply Professional (CPSP); or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM).
  • Equivalent education, training and/or certification may be substituted for experience and education shown above

Travel Requirements
