The Regional Director will play a critical role in driving growth, managing client relationships, and ensuring the successful execution of engineering projects. This position requires a strong technical background, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to navigate complex business environments.
Role responsibilities:Leadership and Strategic Planning:
  • Provide strategic direction and vision for the East Africa region, aligning it with the overall goals and objectives of the consulting engineering firm.
  • Develop and implement business strategies to drive growth, expand market presence, and increase revenue.
  • Lead and motivate a diverse team of engineers, project managers, and support staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work culture.
Business Development
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the East Africa region, including government contracts, private sector partnerships, and international projects.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and industry partners, promoting the firm’s services and capabilities.
  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify emerging trends, client needs, and competitive landscape, and use the insights to shape business development strategies.
Project Management
  • Oversee the successful execution of engineering projects within the region, ensuring adherence to quality standards, timelines, and budgetary constraints.
  • Collaborate with project teams to define project scope, deliverables, and key performance indicators, and monitor progress throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Implement effective project management methodologies and tools, ensuring efficient resource allocation and risk mitigation.
Financial Management
  • Develop and manage the regional budget, closely monitoring financial performance and ensuring profitability targets are met.
  • Proven track record in managing P&L.
  • Conduct financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting to provide accurate insights on the region’s financial health and performance.
  • Identify cost optimization measures and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency.
Compliance And Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations, industry standards, and company policies across all projects and operations.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks and challenges, implementing appropriate risk management strategies.
  • Foster a culture of safety, ethics, and integrity within the region, promoting best practices and ensuring the well-being of employees and stakeholders.
People Management
  • Review, implement, and be accountable for people strategy and social license to operate within the East Africa region.
  • Create, maintain and improve a working environment that is aligned to our Zutari Codes so we have a highly engaged employees with a high performance culture.
  • Lead and guide senior personnel regarding the implementation and monitoring of talent, managing attrition, providing career guidance, and individuals’ development for all employees.
Required skills and experience:
  • Bachelor’s or master's degree in engineering or a related field. Business Science degree (MBA) will be an advantage
  • Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in consulting engineering, with a focus on infrastructure projects in Africa.
  • Proven track record in business development, including securing new projects and expanding client relationships.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen and experience managing budgets.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and stakeholders.
  • Sound understanding of project management methodologies and practices.
  • Knowledge of local regulations, standards, and practices in East Africa.
  • Ability to navigate complex business environments and cultural nuances.
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in other local languages is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel within the region and occasionally internationally.
