IRES offers a comprehensive portfolio of technical training and education services designed for individuals, and organizations working in the agriculture; climate change and environment; disaster management; education; foodTrainer / Consultant - Industrial Automation with PLC and SCADA SystemsWe are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Industrial Automation Trainer to deliver an advanced-level training course on Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems. The trainer will provide participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical, hands-on skills to design, program, integrate, and manage automation systems that enhance efficiency, safety, and reliability in industrial operations.Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and deliver intensive training programs covering PLC and SCADA systems.
  • Facilitate interactive lectures, demonstrations, and practical case studies using real or simulated automation environments.
  • Teach programming of PLCs using multiple languages (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text).
  • Guide participants in SCADA system design, configuration, and integration with PLCs and other technologies.
Demonstrate and supervise hands-on exercises in:
  • PLC programming and configuration
  • SCADA development and monitoring
  • HMI design and setup
  • Networking and communication protocols (Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus)
  • Troubleshooting and system maintenance
  • Incorporate safety standards, cybersecurity practices, and Industry 4.0 trends into training delivery.
  • Assess participant learning outcomes and provide constructive feedback.
  • Develop training materials, manuals, and practical scenarios customized to participants' industry needs.
  • Stay up to date with emerging automation technologies and integrate relevant advancements into the training.
Requirements:Qualifications & Experience:Academic Background
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Automation, Mechatronics, or Control Systems.
  • Additional certification in PLC/SCADA programming or industrial automation systems is highly desirable.
Professional Experience
  • Minimum 5-10 years of hands-on experience in industrial automation and control systems.
  • Proven expertise in working with major PLC platforms (Siemens, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Schneider, Mitsubishi, or Omron).
  • Strong knowledge of SCADA platforms (Wonderware, WinCC, Ignition, GE iFIX, etc.).
  • Experience in system integration, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of automation systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, OPC-UA).
  • Knowledge of safety standards (IEC 61508, ISO 13849) and cybersecurity best practices in automation.
Training/Facilitation Skills
  • Previous experience delivering technical training, workshops, or corporate programs.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
  • Strong practical orientation - able to create and guide hands-on training sessions.
  • Proficiency with simulation tools (e.g., Factory I/O, TIA Portal, RSLogix, SCADA simulators) is an advantage.
Land Policy and Legal Consultant (Land Acquisition & Resettlement)The Land Policy and Legal Consultant will lead sessions on the legal frameworks governing land acquisition in Kenya and how they align with global safeguard standards. The consultant will equip participants with the skills to interpret land tenure systems, manage compulsory acquisition processes, and design fair compensation mechanisms.Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver lectures on compulsory acquisition, compensation frameworks, and land tenure.
  • Compare Kenyan land laws with international safeguard policies (World Bank, IFC, AfDB).
  • Provide practical insights through case studies (e.g., Konza Technopolis, SGR).
Requirements:Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Law, Land Policy, or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years' experience in land law and acquisition projects.
  • Proven track record in training/facilitation.
Social Safeguards and Resettlement ConsultantThe Social Safeguards and Resettlement Consultant will help participants understand the social dimensions of land acquisition and resettlement, including how to safeguard livelihoods and manage community relations. The consultant will emphasize participatory approaches, grievance redress mechanisms, and alignment with donor safeguard requirements.Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver training on Social Impact Assessments (SIA) and Resettlement Action Plans (RAPs).
  • Facilitate case study discussions (LAPSSET Corridor, Thwake Dam).
  • Lead participatory exercises and role-plays on community consultation.
Requirements:Required Qualifications:
  • Degree in Sociology, Anthropology, or Development Studies.
  • At least 7 years' experience in resettlement planning or social safeguards.
  • Familiarity with World Bank/IFC safeguard policies is an advantage.
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) ConsultantThe Environmental Consultant will deliver comprehensive sessions on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental & Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) processes. The consultant will also demonstrate how environmental safeguards intersect with social aspects of land acquisition, ensuring participants gain a holistic perspective.Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach EIA/ESIA processes for infrastructure and development projects.
  • Analyze case studies (Lake Turkana Wind Power Project).
  • Guide participants in preparing sample Environmental Management Plans (EMPs).
Requirements:Required Qualifications:
  • Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in EIAs/ESIAs.
  • Knowledge of NEMA processes and donor environmental safeguards.
Project Finance and Resettlement Compensation ConsultantThe Finance Consultant will introduce participants to the financial dimensions of land acquisition and resettlement. The consultant will guide participants in developing budgets, planning compensation disbursements, and evaluating cost-benefit implications to ensure projects remain financially sound while meeting social obligations.Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver sessions on financial planning for land acquisition and resettlement.
  • Share practical insights (e.g., SGR compensation challenges).
  • Guide participants in preparing sample budgets for RAPs.
Requirements:Required Qualifications:
  • Degree in Economics, Finance, or Project Management.
  • At least 7 years' experience in infrastructure project financing or resettlement budgeting.
  • Strong facilitation and training skills.
Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Consultant - Land Acquisition & ResettlementThe M&E Consultant will equip participants with tools and methods to design effective monitoring and evaluation systems for resettlement and rehabilitation projects. The consultant will focus on practical application, helping participants develop indicators, track outcomes, and produce reports that meet donor and government standards.Key Responsibilities:
  • Train participants on setting KPIs and data collection methods.
  • Lead practical sessions on monitoring frameworks (e.g., Thwake Dam Project).
  • Facilitate development of participatory monitoring tools.
Requirements:Required Qualifications:
  • Degree in M&E, Statistics, or Development Studies.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in M&E for infrastructure/social projects.
  • Familiarity with donor reporting frameworks (World Bank, AfDB).
Conflict Resolution and Mediation Consultant - Land AcquisitionThe Conflict Resolution & Mediation Consultant will help participants develop skills to manage disputes arising during land acquisition and resettlement. The consultant will focus on consensus-building, mediation, and grievance-handling techniques, supported by case studies and practical role-plays.Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver sessions on negotiation and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).
  • Lead role-plays on grievance redress (e.g., Lake Turkana Wind Project).
  • Provide strategies for community-level conflict resolution.
Requirements:Required Qualifications:
  • Degree in Law, Peace Studies, or Mediation/Conflict Resolution.
  • At least 5 years' experience in land-related disputes or ADR.
