- Carry out literature review and design and develop protocols to address the research objectives
- Conduct study entry preparatory activities including obtaining all relevant approvals and permissions.
- Carry out collection of quantitative and qualitative data using various methods
- Conduct qualitative data transcription, analysis and interpretation
- Supervise field personnel supporting in this project
- Conduct quantitative data analysis, interpretation and produce timely summary reports including upgrading report.
- Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-review journals.
- Produce final thesis.
- Participate in protocol development and manuscript review.
- Perform all other duties as requested by the supervisor(s).
- Masters degree or the equivalent from a recognized University, relevant to the area of study (Social Science, Health Systems, Public Health or related field). Mandatory
- Proof of current PhD registration with a recognized University, either local or International. Mandatory
- Must have knowledge of helminth infections, specifically soil-transmitted helminthiasis STH and social research methods. Mandatory
- Willingness to commit 100% (full) time and effort to the PhD. Mandatory
- Must demonstrate capacity for continued career growth through publications in peer-reviewed journals and/or presentation at scientific meetings. Previous publications related to the research themes of the project will be an added advantage. Added Advantage
- Knowledge and skills relevant to the PhD topic (e.g. experience in research on helminths in particular STH, quantitative and qualitative research methods or related fields) Mandatory
- Must have excellent communication, analytical and writing skills in English Mandatory
- Personal motivation of the candidate as demonstrated by their motivation letter and responses during the interview Mandatory
- Must have published at least two (2) manuscripts in peer-review journals, at least one (1) as first author. Mandatory
- Demonstrate intention to pursue a long-term career in NTD research. Mandatory
- Commitment to work and reside in Bungoma County, Kenya. Mandatory
- Willing to travel to Freie Universität Berlin (FUB), Germany for training. Mandatory
- Masters degree in social science, health systems, public health or related field Desirable
