Legal Officer - KMFRI Grade 7 at Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI)

This is the entry and training grade for this cadre for Degree holders. An officer at this level will work under guidance and supervision of a senior officer.
The duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail assisting in: -
- Preparing legal briefs for the initiation of legal action;
- Preparing and interpreting legal opinions and offering guidance on legal requirements;
- Ensuring that key issues and needs of Institute are represented in policy fora in international regional and national conferences/meetings/workshops;
- Preparing and filing of pleadings for and on behalf of the Institute;
- Drafting and reviewing of legal instruments and policy documents on behalf of the Institute;
- Drafting of contracts, agreements and other legal documents;
- Providing Secretariat to the Senior Management Meeting and ensuring management decisions are converted to Board papers where applicable;
- Preparing and circulating of Board and Committee Papers; and
- Maintaining and updating the Register of Conflict of Interest.
- Bachelor of Law degree from a recognized university;
- Post graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law;
- Admitted as an Advocate of the High Court;
- Current Practicing Certificate;
- Member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing;
- Demonstrable good results in work performance;
- Proficiency in computer applications; and
- Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

- Basic Salary Scale: KShs. 69,766 – KShs. 90,695 P.M.;
- House Allowance: KShs. 28,000 P.M.
- Commuter Allowance: KShs. 7,000 P.M.
- Annual Leave Allowance: KShs.8,500 P.A.
