This was the first of a series of international shipping and logistics awards in our gall…Technical ManagerWe have an excellent and exciting opportunity for a Technical Manager, to be based in Mombasa, Kenya. We seek to give the opportunity to a candidate who ideally holds a professional qualification in mechanical and technical training or its equivalent. The Incumbent must possess at least 3 years' experience.He/She is to lead and oversee the technical planning, maintenance, and optimization of all company mechanical and operational assets including port equipment (hoppers, grabs, fenders, wheel loaders), pool vehicles, and office machinery. The role ensures maximum asset availability, operational efficiency, and compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESTechnical Planning & Budgeting:

Develop and execute annual technical plans aligned with the company's strategic objectives and budget.
Prepare and manage the technical operational and capital expenditure (CAPEX) budgets.
Plan for long-term replacement and upgrading of major assets.
Allocate and monitor weekly tasks through structured performance dialogues.
Track and report asset utilization metrics on a weekly basis.
Monitor external technical trends and post-related stakeholder developments.
Research and propose best practices in asset management and optimization.

Team Leadership:

Supervise and mentor a team of plant operators, mechanics, and technical officers.
Foster a safety-first culture, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Ensure effective task delegation and follow-up.

Equipment & Property Maintenance:

Manage the preventive and corrective maintenance schedule for: Pool cars and transport vehicles, Port equipment: hoppers, grabs, fenders, wheel loaders &Office equipment and utilities.
Lead diagnosis and troubleshooting of mechanical faults.
Ensure proper branding and utilization of company equipment.
Maintain inspection, servicing, and usage logs for all company assets.
Coordinate technical stock and spare parts procurement and utilization.

Operations Co-ordination:

Ensure timely availability, mobilization, and functioning of port and yard equipment.
Oversee trimming operations, ensuring efficient machine-hour use.
Support safety compliance and operational readiness for internal and third-party users.
Control operational costs related to technical activities.
Facilitate timely renewal of port passes and technical approvals (e.g., hot work permits, specialized equipment use, NTSA & OSHA compliance).

Project Management:

Participate in technical projects including asset acquisition and infrastructure works.
Ensure conformance to company quality standards and best practices.

Quality Assurance & Risk Management:

Implement and enforce maintenance quality standards and safety protocols.
Investigate equipment-related incidents and implement corrective actions.
Identify technical risks and implement mitigation measures.

Documentation & Compliance:

Maintain accurate records of: Maintenance history, Equipment manuals.
Cost and invoice tracking.
Valid inspections (NTSA, OSHA, QMS).
Ensure alignment with the company's Quality Management System (QMS).

Other Duties:

Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor in line with the company's operations and strategic goals.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS/INDICATORS:

100% utilization of machines.
100% revenue generation from machines.
Zero breakdowns.
Cost effective maintenance and repairs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
Certificate of Grade I/II/III in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering (Kenya NITA certified or equivalent).
Minimum 3 years in technical operations or equipment maintenance.
Experience in port or heavy equipment maintenance is an added advantage.
Valid NTSA inspection understanding, knowledge of OSHA regulations, familiarity with QMS documentation.
