- Provide overall leadership and day-to-day management of the operating theatres
- Ensure efficient theatre scheduling, utilisation, and case flow management
- Oversee elective and emergency theatre operations to minimise delays and cancellations
- Lead implementation and compliance with theatre SOPs, checklists, and safety protocols
- Drive continuous improvement in theatre efficiency, turnaround times, and outcomes
- Ensure full compliance with KMPDC, NCK, MoH, infection prevention, and patient safety standards
- Lead audits, inspections, incident reporting, and corrective action plans
- Champion WHO Surgical Safety Checklist and evidence-based practices
- Ensure strict adherence to sterility, asepsis, and infection prevention protocols
- Lead, mentor, and appraise theatre nursing and support staff
- Develop duty rotas, on-call schedules, and skill mix planning
- Identify training needs and support continuous professional development
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and high performance
- Oversee theatre equipment readiness, maintenance, and asset control
- Ensure proper management of theatre consumables, scrubs, crocs, and sterile supplies
- Work closely with Stores, Procurement, Biomedical, and Finance to ensure cost control
- Participate in budgeting and capital equipment planning
- Act as the primary liaison between surgeons, anaesthetists, nursing teams, and hospital management
- Support visiting consultants and ensure smooth onboarding and compliance
- Participate actively in hospital committees and management meetings
- Registered Nurse with a minimum of 10 years post-qualification experience
- Valid Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) license
- Extensive hands-on theatre experience in a busy surgical environment
- Proven experience in theatre leadership, management, or supervisory role for more than 7 years.
- Strong understanding of theatre workflows, sterility standards, and surgical disciplines
- Demonstrated ability to manage people, processes, and performance
- Postgraduate qualification in Theatre Nursing, Perioperative Nursing, or Healthcare Management
- Experience working in a multi-specialty or high-volume theatre environment
- Exposure to hospital accreditation, audits, and regulatory inspections
- Strong data-driven approach to utilisation, efficiency, and quality improvement
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management
- High level of accountability and integrity
- Ability to work under pressure and manage complex clinical operations
- Strong organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills
