  • The Senior Assistant Manager is responsible for efficient underwriting of insurance risks in accordance with the set guidelines to enhance business retention growth and profitability
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Prudent vetting of risks for various classes of insurance.
  • Calculating and advising clients, brokers, and agents on insurance premiums.
  • Preparing premium/sum insured returns and summaries as required by IRA/AKI
  • Liaising with the Reinsurance Section regarding risks that require facultative reinsurance placement.
  • Prompting debiting of all new and renewal business in accordance with the set TATs.
  • Approving various tasks as per the set Authority limits
  • Processing accurate policy documents and endorsements in accordance with the set TATs.
  • Ensuring that Renewal Notices are sent out to clients/intermediaries as per set standards.
  • Advising business development of any risk aspects at renewal e.g. where the loss ratio is not good.
  • Handling correspondence in accordance with the mail handling procedure.
  • Understanding and complying with any reinsurance requirements to minimize risk and deliver business plan objectives
  • Identify and suggest improvements to the footprint system and other processes for improved efficiency
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related discipline from a reputable university.
  • Professional qualification(s) in insurance e.g. ACII, FCII, or equivalent considered an added advantage
  • At least seven (10) years of underwriting experience in the insurance industry
  • Strong leadership and skills to foster teamwork; develop and motivate staff, resolve conflicts as well as the ability to provide direction, guidance, momentum, and vision to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to develop proposals, concept papers, position papers as well as write reports and prepare relevant publications.
  • High-level interpersonal and cross-cultural skills, including the ability to build alliances and collaborative relationships with sensitivity to diversity.
  • Must be a self-starter, highly organized, and able to work well with people at all levels in the organization.
